The Firebird is found in East European folklore, which the Vikings would have been familiar with from their interaction with the Slavs of eastern Europe. The Firebird was a mythical creature with golden feathers and jeweled eyes, who was the object of many fairytale quests. A single feather from its golden plumage could light a whole room.
